The Club will hold a very special fundraising challenge game on Saturday week 8th Nov at 3pm to mark the retirement from the playing of competitive football by Cian Smith. Cian is the proud holder of an All Ireland medal with Roscommon’s Minors of 2006. Most followers of football will know that Cian has bravely battled health problems for some years and has continued to play despite adversity. He is hanging up his boots in advance of going for surgery in mid November. To mark the occasion there will be a very attractive line up of payers in Abbey Park as a Boyle selection managed by David Casey will take on a selection of well known players from throughout the County, including many of his 2006 All Ireland title winning colleagues and past and present county players. The proceeds from the game will be shared between the Kyle Casey Fund and Mayo Roscommon Hospice and admission will be optional. Further details next week. Congratulations to David Kelly and Lorraine Toman on their engagement over the weekend.
Thanks,

Pride of place this week goes to the U12 Boys on winning the Spring League Division 1 Final with a convincing win over St. Brigids in Oran on Sunday. Congratulations to the entire panel and their management for their commitment to date. Thanks to those who went along to support. The U14s went down to St Aidan's in the Division 2 Championship in Ballyforan by 3-11 to 16 on Tuesday Evening. They are also scheduled to host Padraig Pearses in the next round of the Division 2 League this tonight at 7.30pm in the Abbey Park. The National Automation Limited Minors had a high scoring draw with Castlerea St Kevins in Castlerea on Thursday last in the Division 3 Championship. They are scheduled to play Tulsk in the next round of this competition in Tulsk on 8th August. The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors lost to St Faithleachs in the Division 4 Championship in the Abbey Park on Wednesday evening last. The McGovern Directional Drilling Seniors went down to Western Gaels on a score line of 3-13 to 1-13 last night in the Abbey Park. On what was an incredibly humid evening the large crowd were treated to a pulsating encounter. The Gaels with their plethora of county stars went into a 1-5 to 2 point lead early in the first half with the goal coming from an unforced error in the Boyle defence, but the team rallied back to go in at half time only a point down with a goal coming from Darren O'Connor. The second half saw Boyle gain the upper hand and when Roch Hanmore boomed over a point from between the half way line and midfield it looked like a shock was on the cards. Western Gaels upped the gears and hit 4 unanswered points but Boyle never gave up, and points from Tadgh Lowe and Mark o'Donohoe kept them in touch, but a fortuitous goal, when it appeared David Callaghan had been fouled put breathing space between the teams.  The overall air of disappointment shows how far the team have come, and with the same attitude in the remaining 5 games they should secure their status as a division 1 team for next season. Both David Callaghan and Killian Cox were again outstanding in defence and along with Jim Suffin and  Tadhg Lowe who kicked 3 points from play despite playing with a hamstring strain were Boyle's best performers.  The team was. Cian Smith, Brian Furey, David Callaghan, Killian Cox, Aaron Sharkey, Roch Hanmore, Tadhg McKenna, Enda Smith, Steve Tonry, Tadhg Lowe, Donie Smith, Jim Suffin, Evan McGrath, Darren O'Connor, Mark O'Donohoe, Subs used, Colin Goldrick, Liam Conroy, Michael Hanmore with Lochlainn Conboy, Peter Lavin, Ciaran Beirne, Mark O'Connor, Joe Sweeney, Thomas McGarritty, Jason McDermott, Conor Flanagan,  The team are scheduled to play Elphin in their next O’Rourke Cup outing on Sunday next in the Orchard Park at 2pm. Tickets are available from Club officers for the Roscommon GAA Race Day on Tuesday 5th August. Tickets are €20 and the price includes the race card, a free bet and finger food and access to an exclusive enclosure for Roscommon GAA supporters. We are anxious to make this a social evening out for our Club members and supporters. The Club is about to embark on a fundraising draw with very attractive prizes. Details will be announced in the coming week. Congratulations to Niall and Valerie O'Donohoe on the birth of their daughter Leah and also to all who participated in and organised the Tough Mucker event in the Forest Park on Saturday which looks like it could become an annual event. The Club extends its sympathy to the Beirne family, St Patrick Street on the death of Malachy.

Ladies Club
Boyle Ladies had a convincing victory over old rivals Shannon Gaels in the third round of the Intermediate Championship in Abbey Park on Sunday. There were a number of strong performances on the Boyle team namely Catriona Hanmore, Ashling Dolan, Nicole McDermott and Emer Killalea but special mention to Melissa Mattimoe who added to 2 crucial scores when introduced in the second half when the team needed them most. This gives them two wins out of three to date. They are scheduled to play Castlerea St Kevins in their next championship game on Sunday next in Abbey Park at 12 noon. Well done to Roscommon U16 Girls on their Championship win over Leitrim on Saturday, and to our three representatives on the panel--Melissa Mattimoe, Rachel Maidment and Roisin Wynne.

The U14s will play Western Gaels in the Division 2 Championship in Frenchpark on Thursday next at 7.30pm. The McGovern Directional Drilling seniors may be in action on Wednesday week 16th in the O’Rourke Cup away to St Aidans.
