UPDATE 6TH MAY 2014

The Minors and U16s continue with training but have no games until after the exams. The U14s next game is v Kilmore/Shannon in Kilmore on the 15th May at 7pm. The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors had a hard earned three point win over St Michaels in Cootehall on Friday evening last. Their next outing is expected to be against Balinameen on a date to be determined. The Club wishes Brian Furey a speedy recovery from a finger injury which he sustained in the game. Thanks to all who supported the church gate collection at the weekend for the underage Boyle Teams, Congratulations to all who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in Boyle on Sunday. Congratulations also to the Roscommon Ladies footballers who won the Division 4 League Final in Tullamore on Saturday. Unfortunately the U21's went down to a stronger Dublin side in a game they didn't get going in until the second half. Although losing a final is never easy and for some of the team this is their second final loss in three years the team can take a lot of heart from their second half performance. Well done to Donie and Enda on a good year with the team. The McGovern Directional Senior team picked up their first point of the year with a draw at home to St.Croans in a game that had a championship like feel to it. Boyle started without Mark O'Connor, Donie and Enda Smith, Darren O Connor and Ray Hannon but showed their strength in depth by still fielding a very strong team and lined up with the experience of Mark Mc Govern alongside the youth of Evan McGrath in defence. The first half was tight and Boyle went in at half time 1-6 to 1-4 in front with the goal coming from Jim Suffin after a length of the pitch move, with David Callaghan instrumental in creating the opportunity. The second half saw Boyle go four in front with another goal, this time from Tadhg Lowe but this was the last Boyle score for some time as St. Croans took over and went from four points down to 3 in front. While other teams may have folded Boyle rallied and showed great resolve in finding a way back into the game. Liam Conroy curled over a beauty from the right and Tadhg Mckenna reduced the gap to one with time nearly up. Boyle kept pressing and David Callaghan won a free on the left which Sean Purcell put over to level the game. The Boyle team was, Cian Smith, Marc Goldrick, Cillian Cox, Evan McGrath, Michael Hanmore, Sean Purcell (0-2) (1f), Aaron Sharkey, Roch Hanmore(0-1), David Callaghan(0-1) (1f), Tadhg McKenna (0-1), Steve Tonry, Tadhg Lowe (1-2) (1f)), Mark McGovern, Jim Suffin(1-0), Mark O' Donohoe (0-2). Final score 2-9 a piece. The teams next game is against Strokestown at home on the 25th of this month. The Club extends its sympathy the Regan Family, Green Street on the death of Christy, and to the Finneran Family, Ballinagare on the death of Mrs Mae Finneran.
